There’s a hole in our bathroom ceiling

Last Friday, I woke up to a giant puddle on the master bathroom floor. The ceiling looked like this:

We thought it might be a leak from the upstairs neighbor, but I checked his apartment and everything seemed okay. So we called our home insurance, and they came yesterday to check on it. And that’s how we ended up with a hole in our ceiling. Ah, the joys of apartment living.

The worst part is that it is, in fact, a leak from our upstairs neighbor – so the hole could’ve been avoided. And now we have to wait until he calls his insurance company and they patch everything up.

On the upside? We had to paint the bathroom ceiling after installing recessed lighting (we have to paint almost every ceiling in our apartment, actually, for that reason – can you tell we’ve been avoiding it?) and now we won’t have to since the insurance will take care of it. I still don’t like having a hole in the ceiling though! Let’s hope they fix it up in no time.

Oh No! What a mess. In my old condo the people above me’s tub overflowed, and I had a similar issue. I lived with a huge wallboard patch in my bathroom ceiling for the longest time…untill I was motivated enough to paint it! Not fun =(

Oh, Im so sorry. Water damage is the worst. Ive actually experienced a (big) leak in my master bath too- and it took down the entire ceiling. That was a few years ago- but scarred me. And we are still dealing with the reprocussions of a major flood a few months ago. Ugg. Hope this is fixed nice and fast for you! In the meantime have yourself a glass of wine :)

Oh yeah ceilings are the worst. We still have to paint ours and it’s been more than 18 months since we installed recessed lighting. But since we have to paint the kitchen, both bathrooms, the hallway and the master bedroom it’s a ton of work and something we’ve been avoiding.
