Redoing the Pallet Seating Area

I mentioned a while ago that we were going to redo the pallet seating area but I failed to show you a picture explaining why:

Yeah, the wood is completely rotten. We used a sealant/protector for bad weather but the wood wasn’t great so it didn’t work properly. We’re not huge fans of having to redo anything – especially something as time consuming as this – but we use those seats/benches a lot during the summer and really like them. If we had known that the pallets would turn out like this, we would have used “real” wood instead and we would have saved ourselves some time and money. By the time we bought wood in bulk the pallets were already done though so we had no real reason to redo everything until now.

And now… the wood is all cut into pieces and we’re ready to go. We were both busy this past weekend at our respective bachelor/bachelorette parties (I had an awesome time! We had fun doing paintball and kayaking and barbecuing) but we’ve already started sanding everything down. There’s a ton of wood – this is definitely a huge project – so it’ll take a while.

In the meantime, though, while we keep on sanding, I’d like to ask you: what color would you paint/stain them?

White like the legs of the big dining table, brown like the tabletop…

Or mayble ebony black, or blueish/gray like this one here?

We both like darker tones but we have a huge resin problem. They heat up really easily so they ooze a lot of resin. Plus having a really hot seat during the summer might not be the best idea… lighter tones are cooler but stains seep in quickly. So what would you choose? White, gray, brown or black? Comment away!

Bummer about the pallets and having to redo them :(

I’m torn between the white (so clean looking!) or the brown like the table top! Maybe you can do a similar style where you do the bottom/legs in one color and the seating porting in another?

Haha, we’re crazy like that. My boyfriend has almost three weeks off this month so we have some time, too.

Love the pallet seating. I could see it painted or stained a rich color, like a coral or teal. Or, might be nice with some cushions or throw pillows too. I lived in Park Slope, my first NYC home, when my son was born and would love to move back!
