The Week Before The Wedding

So, in case you’ve forgotten, we’re self-catering our wedding. Next week. Specifically, Friday September 7th. Apparently I’m crazy and besides cooking for my own wedding I also decided to tackle a thousand DIY projects and details. A short list of the projects we’ve done:

  • The invitations
  • Menu window
  • Cake topper
  • Arrow signs
  • Bunting signs for the tables (“Welcome”, “Drinks”, “Desserts”, “Coffee & Tea”, “Photo Booth”)
  • A sign for the bathroom door
  • Escort cards and seating chart
  • Non-traditional guestbook
  • USB drive favor display + the recipe “magazine” that’s loaded inside
  • Burlap table runners
  • Ceremony and photo booth backdrop
  • A couple of signs for the photo booth, plus a  ton of props to use at the photo booth (we have yet to finish this)
  • Crepe paper “bunting” for the ceiling
  • Paper pompoms
  • Beverage dispensers out of milk cans
  • Washi tape flags for the cheese trays
  • Wood cutting boards for the cheese and jamón
  • Earrings for myself
  • Small envelopes of confetti
  • Writing the ceremony
We’ve also organized everything related to the serving and plating of the food (i.e. glasses, plates, etc), the lighting (we’ll be using LED rope lighting that we’ll later install in our patio once the wedding is over), music, plus the tent, tables and chairs. I wasn’t crazy enough to attempt to do it all at the last minute, and right now, there aren’t many things that are left to do, besides buying the food and actually cooking everything. We’ll be setting up the tents, installing the lighting and hanging the crepe paper “bunting” from the ceiling at the end of this week.
In an attempt to be super organized about everything, I’ve created a document that specifies where each “thing” –be it a prop, a plate, or a dish– has to go and how the tables have to be set up. I thought it might be useful to anyone who’s also DIYing their wedding, so here is a preview and the PDF file.

Also, I know that I’ve glossed over many of the stuff we’ve done, but once the wedding is over and I actually have time, I’d really like to explain properly how we’ve done and organized everything. Plus I’ll be able to share how everything went, whether my organization documents were useful, and what I would do differently. So bear with me during this last week of crazy wedding planning and wish me luck!

Wow- I totally envy your organizational skills! The table layout and notes are pretty genius. I hope that works out well for you. I figured out most things the morning of our wedding as we were pulling it all out to set it up- your strategy is much better!

I can’t believe the amount of things you guys have made and created. I thought I took on too much and was crazy- but you beat me! lol. Your things are gorgeous and I honestly think your wedding will be beyond beautiful! It’s so personal and handcrafted- I love that!

Enjoy your last week and I hope your wedding is everything you want it to be! I’m sure it will be perfect!

¡Hola Ainhoa!
