Friday Updates

We have the wood ready for the passthrough door and I’ve already started staining them:

I hope to finish them in the next few days, but we have a very busy weekend ahead of us (lunch today, lunch tomorrow, dinner on Sunday, plus a couple of other things) so I don’t know when I’ll be able to stain. As soon as they’re stained we’ll assemble them, which is very easy, and I’ll share details.

Annabel made my day yesterday when the package from her giveaway arrived:

Isn’t the packaging adorable?! Thank you so, so much.

Apparently we’re not capable of finishing one project before jumping to the next one because we’ve already started with the TV unit revamp. Here’s the hole for the cables behind the TV:

And the wood & legs for the new TV stand, which we’re building ourselves:

I’ve made a promise to myself, however: I can’t start with the bus roll sign until both the pass through doors and the TV unit are done. Even if I already have the materials at home, waiting for me.

And to finish… one super embarrassing pic. When we started with the pass through project a lot of things in the kitchen had to be moved to the spare bedroom. We knew we’d have to live with a mess for a while. However, we also stopped picking things up after we were done working for the day (because we knew we’d use them soon again) and simply dumped all the materials and tools on top of the bed. Which eventually led to this:

Yeah, that’s a hot mess. There’s still some kitchen stuff in there (mostly what used to be on the open shelf, which we still have to hang) but the majority is just scraps/random materials/tools/etc. I should reeeeaally organize that and put everything back in its place, I was hoping showing you guys a picture might help me get to it more quickly. What about you? Do you start several projects at once and end up with a huge mess of an apartment? Tell me I’m not alone!

I am a total mess. We don’t really do several DIY projects at a time because the boy is the DIYer and *he* is super organized.
However I read several books at the same time. I open many tabs of articles / blogs / videos / things I want to see when I browse.
And our yellow room, the one I am supposed to be making curtains for (not started yet) is a total dump-place. We just put random material on the floor, since it’s an empty room. I should probably start that project now, I am kind of intimidated by the sewing machine (it’ll be the first time I touch it and the first time I do something with cloth and my hands since… 6th grade). So no, you’re not alone!

I’d love to see how you make the curtains, since I’ve recently thought about taking up sewing but I haven’t touched a sewing machine in my life!

Ohhh so much goodness happening. I am also long on projects but short on time. Oh and I have that Hemnes day bed too, although I have the older model with the tan wood trim :)

Great projects. Can’t wait to see more :)

I love the Hemnes daybed, it’s very practical. Also it’s from the as-is section so the price was pretty decent!

I can’t wait to see all these projects come together! I am the worst for having 10 projects on the go at all times. I never finish things before starting something new. I’ve been desperately trying to stop that this year with little luck. I have about 5 things I want to do right now and I keep working on a bit of one then jumping to the next. I’ve vowed not to start anything else though until I get at least one or two done. Our spare room looks like that 90% of the time- it’s the dumping ground for everything. : (

Good to know I’m not alone! Can’t wait to see your projects – especially the play kitchen and the master bath, it’s going to be awesome.
