The trip from Amsterdam to Prague was quite long, more than 800km, so we left in the morning but by the time we got to Prague we were exhausted and stayed at the hotel. When we arrived in Prague we also parked in the outer limits of the city, using the P+R (Park+Ride) system as well, but finding the parking was harder this time and although the price of parking is cheaper it doesn’t include free round trip tickets to the city. This in particular turned out to be a bummer because we only had bills, not coins, and the machine didn’t accept bills. So we had to ask the man inside the parking for change… and he didn’t speak English, nor Spanish, nor French (he didn’t speak Basque either, obviously…) AND he was really grumpy! Just what you want after a 8+ hour drive. Anyway, I don’t remember how but we finally got our subway tickets and went to the hotel, which was about a minute away from the station so we found it very easily.

The hotel was the Hilton Prague (the one in the “business” district, not the one in the Old Town) and it was really, really nice. Since it was a hotel thought for business travelers the Executive Lounge, which we had access to, was superb! It was almost like a restaurant, but you didn’t have to pay anything. You had breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and beverages the whole day. Needless to say we didn’t eat out much. We were saving money for Switzerland… So, for us, the 15+ minute walk to the Old Town was definitely worth it to have access to an Executive Lounge. To give you an idea, the day we arrived we had the following things for dinner: ham and artichoke mini pizzas and chicken kebabs, besides the usual cheeses and crudités, and for dessert a strawberry mousse cake and hazelnut pound cake.

We woke up the next day and after having breakfast we went walking to the Old Town where we saw the touristy places like the astronomy clock, the city hall, the national museum (even though the whole street was under construction)… I saw a magnet I liked and I bought it (I collect them).

We crossed to the other side of the river, checked the famous Charles bridge and walked up the the castle. Truthfully, I was a little disappointed with Prague. Maybe it was because everywhere we went was packed with tourists, the weather was extremely hot and I found the sidewalks were made of pebblestone which is really tiresome to walk on all the time. But it’s true that the first time I went to Amsterdam I didn’t like it as much as everyone else and this summer it was one of my favorite places (besides the Fribourg area in Switzerland).

Anyway, when we got tired of walking and seeing places we went back to the hotel and took advantage of the hotel pool and spa. We also had dinner at the Executive Lounge as well, everything was excellent!

Our last full day in Prague was spent walking around the New Town (I wanted to check out the Dancing House) and the hotel area. After lunch we went to the pool again, and then went out for a bit to the center to buy a couple of postcards and to buy food in a supermarket, so we wouldn’t have to buy a lot of food in Switzerland.

And that’s basically what we did in Prague! As you can see we’re not really museum people – we just like to walk around, see everything for a bit. Oh and I also especially like farmer’s markets or markets in general, but there weren’t any that we saw in Prague!
